Aromatherapy for Children

Using aromatherapy for children is not the same with adults. You have to be extra careful when deciding what essences to use and how to apply them to children. Aromatherapy essences are distilled from flowers, fruits, leaves, roots, wood and seed. Each combination of essensces can have numerous effects for the consumer. Because of the danger it can cause to children, some essential oils are not to be applied, especially for children with epilepsy.
However, if used correctly aromatherapy for children is very much possible. It can even be a great benefit and does not conflict with a child's medically prescribed drugs when used. Essential oils can be a wonderful way of supporting your child's health, happiness and well-being. Essential oils can be very therapeutic and nurturing to both your child and you, the caregiver.

Before deciding what kinds of essential oils to use with your childe, always do a little research. You can ask advice from other people that has an experience, or a qualified practitioner. Essential oils are used externally (on the outside of the body) in your child’s bath, body lotions, oils, creams, gels, compresses, foot baths, or in a oil warmer.

The effects of aromatherapy will generally fall into one of three main categories:
 1) Assisting in healing from minor illnesses and accidents,
 2) Supporting your child’s overall sense of well-being, and
 3) Assisting your child in getting quality rest.

When using essential oils with your child, it is imperative that you find a reputable supplier of therapeutic-grade essential oils, using organic or wildcrafted varieties when possible. Synthetic copies of oils commonly used in perfumery are not appropriate, and may even be harmful to your child’s health. To maintain efficacy, essential oils should be kept in dark amber or cobalt glass containers, in a dark and cool location, away from the child’s access. Wooden storage boxes from craft or 'Pier One' type stores can make a nice container for the bottles.

There are two methods that you can use apply aromatherapy for children.  The first is a method called INHALATION, where you apply the aromatherapy through a diffuser, nebulizer, or adding to a humidifier reservoir, and the other one is TOPICAL APPLICATION where you dilute the essential oil in a carrier oil and applying topically. Adding essential oils to a bath is actually a combination of the two methods, though it will probably be covered under topical application.

For topical application, essential oils are diluted in varying strengths depending on the use and age of your child. The concentration can vary from one drop of essential oil per tablespoon of carrier oil, to a couple of drops per teaspoon of carrier added to a drawn bath, to an equal ratio of carrier and essential oil applied directly to your child’s feet (as in the case of gentle Lavender). In other words, there is a huge variation in dilution levels depending on the circumstances.

Aromatherapy can also be used as antiseptic for children. Just simply pour minor mixture of lavender and tea tree oil on the bandage where the child is hurt, and that will do the trick.
There are many other applications where you can apply aromatherapy for children, the key is to find a good practitioner and good resource for your needs.

We all know that it is important for our health to make sure we maintain a healthy weight. But, while it's okay to overindulge every now and again - on your birthday for instance, or at Christmas - if you do it all the time you will certainly end up putting on weight sooner or later! The key to losing weight or keeping the slim figure you have now lies in eating a balanced diet. We know that too much fat isn't going to be good for us in the long term, but planning a healthy diet is about so much more than just cutting down on fat.

For example, eating plenty of fibre is a good place to start. Not only does this keep you regular but it also keeps you feeling full up for longer. And you will usually find that introducing fibre into your diet can be done rather easily.

Think about replacing the white bread in your lunchtime sandwich with high fibre bread, for example. You can also replace your cornflakes with bran flakes. Simple changes like this are often a much better way to eat a healthy diet that will help you lose weight than trying to make many drastic changes all at once.

Eating a balanced diet means eating the right amounts of carbohydrates, fats and proteins every day. You don't need to be too precise about the exact amounts you eat, but you should make sure you cut down on the fats in favour of the other two components in your diet.

A big part of being on a balanced and healthy diet is simply being sensible. Think about the things you eat that are obviously not very good for you. Do you eat crisps every day, for example? What about chocolate? Perhaps you have a particular weakness for pastry?

Whatever your own personal vices are, you don't have to give them up entirely. In fact, if you do you are more likely to binge on them when your willpower to resist them finally gives out! Just be sensible and eat a little on occasion, instead of all the time.

If you do struggle with your weight, you will find that eating a balanced and nutritious diet not only keeps you feeling full, it also helps you to lose any excess weight you are carrying. And since you aren't trying to stick to a strict diet, you will also find it much easier to carry on for the long term

We owe it to ourselves to take care of our bodies as best we can. Doing things such as eating a proper diet and perhaps giving consideration to a health insurance policy will ensure that we can keep up that goal for a long time to come.

Maintenance of a balanced diet ensures variety and breaks the monotony of a meal. It also creates interest and makes the meal, more appetizing. Optimum growth and health are the prerequisite of every individual. Achieve the same with a balanced diet.

One of the best ways to change your diet is to change to an organic one. It is good to increase the fiber in your diet, which will clean out your colon of all negative weight loss inhibitors. How To Eat Healthy Fast Food

healthy fast food
People’s lives have become so busy and rushing around, that we no longer eat the way we should. In some places, there is a McDonald’s on every major corner, if not some other fast food restaurant. Watching TV, you see a commercial for some kind of food place almost every time commercials are on, urging you to eat there because it’s good and you can get it fast and cheap. With so many distractions and obligations, families have these days, how do you eat healthy in a fast food world? It’s not an easy thing to do but is possible with planning and knowing what to look for. This isn’t to say fast food can’t be consumed occasionally, but it should be less often than people are doing it now. Not to mention that our food is so processed that it takes five minutes to cook and has high carbohydrates among other things that are not digested quickly. This is leading to obesity in the population.

The Truth About Whole Grain

Because food is so processed these days to make it faster to cook, as well as more convenient for the way our lives have become, it is actually not as good for you as it once was. Recently the food administration even changed the food pyramid to coincide with how we eat these days and food is made. They are suggesting more whole grains than ever before, as well as vegetables. This may sound like what has been told to children for years, but even whole grains are deceiving on packaging these days. With all the new diets out there for low carb, no carb, low fat, no fat, etc., foods are coming out that say whole grain but are just as processed as its white counterpart. They are made with enriched wheat. This process takes out all the nutrients and other things that take time to digest for a healthy life. Reading the ingredient is a good way to find the real whole grain product. They are now more expensive than the over processed product because manufacturers could make the enriched version cheaper and faster. To eat healthy you have to read the labels of everything you consume.

Healthy Choices at Fast Food Eateries

The truth is that you really can’t eat healthy at any fast food restaurant. They aren’t designed for those trying or needing to watch what they put in their mouth. But you can make better decisions. Don’t’ eat the bread if you can stand not too. It’s along the lines of the South Beach Diet but that’s where lots of your weight gaining properties are. Don’t get anything fried, this includes French fries, onion rings, or even fried chicken. Get a diet pop, tea, or water. Avoid the desert and the salad, both have sugar in them and I don’t just mean in the toppings. Watch “Super Size Me” for a real eye opener. The show is on McDonald’s but you can bet that all fast food restaurants are basically the same. Limit how often you eat fast food to once per week, if that fast. Get a wrap at Subway instead of a toasted sub. Less bread and just as filling with all the fixings you want. When you get pizza, get vegetables on it so you aren’t just eating bread, sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. Remember just how bad fast food is for you, your waistline, and your cholesterol. Even if you are fifteen, you should be thinking about how it will affect you later in life. Starting early will make it easier on your body as you age.

Eating at Home

The best thing to do is find a way to cook meals most nights of the week. This can take planning and team work. Have at least one non-meat dish every week. It doesn’t have to be fish or seafood either. Don’t use fast cooking rich to go with your meals. Those are again loaded with carbohydrates, which take your body longer to break down and will make you hungry sooner than you should be. Plan weekly meals so that you can cook casseroles and other easy to reheat dishes early in the week for days you will not have time to cook. Utilize your crock-pot and get a recipe book for it. You can make just about anything in a crock pot these days and have a good meal when you get home. Have salad a few times a week with dinner, but watch how much dressing you put on it. Have desert, but make it Jell-O. Indulge once in a while to though and it won’t feel like you are depriving yourself of anything.
